Crime in the Region of Colorado Affected By Energy Resource DevelopmentColorado State Auditor's office, Denver
Eastern New Mexico University, Portales, New Mexico Reported crime rates in areas of Colorado (boom towns) affected by energy resource development are compared with rates in areas not affected by such development. The findings indicate that crime rates have increased more dramatically and at faster rates in boom areas than in nonboom areas. Population growth does not appear suf ficient to explain the rise in the rates of criminal activity.
